Deena and Sarah
were good friends,
because they were neighbours
and joined the same class.
They celebrated their birthday
at the same date,
as they were born
on the same day.
"So we are twins,"
Deena said.
"No, we are not.
We don't have the same parents,
and we don't live
in the same family."
"We are twins anyway,"
Deena said.
"But in another way,
than you think."
"But we are not alike.
We look different,
we have different interests,
we are different girls,
who just happen
to have been born
on the same day."
"Don't you see my point?
We are cosmic twins."
"My God,
you cannot mean that!
Living on Earth as human beings
has nothing to do with space."
"Be careful now,"
Deena said.
"Or I'll give you a lecture
on this subject.
It can take hours."
"I know what you mean.
I just don't believe
in this space stuff.
It's superstition."
"It's a fact.
The stars, the moon, the comets –
all of them have influence
on our lives
and on our thinking."
Sarah laughed.
"So you have started your lecture now?"
"Well, sort of.
Do you want the rest?
It'll only take two hours,
because it's very complicated.
You see ----."
"No, no, stop that!
Let's just talk a little about it.
You and I are individuals
with different thoughts
and different feelings."
"Of course –
but for one thing.
Children born on the same day
are alike
because of the position
of the stars and planets."
"That's astrology,
and I don't believe in it."
"So what do you believe?"
"I really don't know.
It's not easy."
"You cannot live a life
without believing anything.
It's an empty life."
"OK.
I believe in boys."
Sarah laughed.
It's Jim, isn't it.
That's not belief, Deena.
It's called love.
It could be desire."
"Its love, I think."
"Cosmic love," Deena sighed.
"It's so beautiful!"
"It's not cosmic.
It's bodily and carnal."
"I think he's a lunatic.
How can a boy be so stupid
and empty-headed?"
"Oh, you're jealous.
I didn't know that you loved him."
"I don't love stupid boys.
I prefer cosmic boys."
"What the f ….
is a cosmic boy?
Pure spirit and no body?"
"You are a fanatic,"
Sarah said.
"Have you ….?
"No, we just talk well together.
I do love him."
"And this love is very much cosmic.
The feeling of love
comes from the position
of the planet Venus.
You see, when Venus ….."
Sarah screamed,
"You're lecturing again!
Love is a feeling of community.
When two people feel that,
they are in love.
It's that simple."
"It's Venus. I know it.
It's standing in the same position,
as when we were born."
"I see –
so you must be in love, too,
as we are twins."
Sarah got furious.
"It's Jim, you bitch.
I hate you,
and I don't want to be your twin!"
She stopped for a minute,
thinking.
Then she said,
"When is Jim's birthday?"
"Oh my God, Deena said.
"The same day!!!!!!!!"
